Jordans to Ivinghoe. Steve, Nick, Richard. Met Jim in pub at Ivinghoe,
Saturday night.
Hastings to Folkestone. Coastal walk via Cinque Ports. One of the biggest
Swagmen trips ever, and the first one to take women along. They made a
sterling effort, trailblazing at the front in their plimsols. Roy's Calor Gaz
stove erupts into flames. Camped in (or very close to) a graveyard. Steve,
Nick, Jimmy S, Roy, George, Richard, Jim B, Ian, Jane Holmes, Christine
Tepper.
Isle of Wight tour. Establishment of the "pie and pint" tradition. George
and Richard.
Box Hill and Leith Hill Tour, North Downs. Camp fire at Coldharbour.
George sick (just back from Camp Africa). Travelled their by bus. Jimmy S: "I
can’t believe I’m asking for half on the bus and I’ve got a ‘monkey’ in me
pocket". Steve, George, Jimmy S and Nick.
South Wales. George and Richard.
Exmoor – October. Camped by public toilet. Long walk along very stony
beach. Richard fell and hit head. Good shant! George passed out in drunken
stupor on pub toilet floor. Couldn't find tent pegs and used knives and forks
to pitch tent. Locals assumed we were on SAS Survival Course. Steve, George,
